Frederick Goodall (1822-1904) was like Alma-Tadema an English Victorian painter. He was specialized in orientalist paintings but did also biblical and historical subjects. His Susanna here seems to me as a cheap excuse to paint and sell a nude in Victorian England.
Susanna (1886)
Cheap or not, I'm glad he found an excuse.
ReplyDeleteI like your blog a lot and found there a lot of better artwork about which many art historians would say that it's done by "mere illustrators".
ReplyDeleteGoodall is believed to be an "real artist".
And here I have a problem. He did a nice piece of work and nothing more.
